After NOC he moved on to run a paddle-sport instruction program at New England Outdoor Center ( Maine) and an instruction and trips program at Mountainman Outdoors (New York). Scott has paddled and guided kayak trips throughout the eastern U.S. coastal states, as well as in Europe, South and Central America. In addition to paddling, Scott spends his time outdoors fishing and fly-fishing the trout streams and bass ponds up north and the coastal waters down south, hiking, rock-climbing, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking. Scott is constantly improving his teaching and guiding methods by attending symposiums, workshops, and ACA updates, and teaching with other instructors all over the east coast.
Naomi Niskala
Naomi began kayaking in 2001 when, on a whim, she decided to build her own stitch and glue wooden kayak. Since then Naomi has taken her kayak from the lakes and streams of the Adirondacks and the coastal waters of Maine up north, to the Gulf of Mexico waters of the Everglades down south. Naomi grew up in upstate New York, and from the age of 10 she has spent her summers in the southern part of the Adirondacks. The past few years found her paddling the Long Island Sound where she lived along the Connecticut shore. Now Naomi spends her time split between Tampa, Florida and the Adirondacks, and she’s been thoroughly enjoying the ability to paddle year-round now in both salt and fresh water. In the spring of 2005 Naomi built a second stitch and glue wooden kayak – to read about the building process and see pictures, click here.Naomi is an ACA certified kayak instructor and certified in First Aid/CPR. During her spare time she also helps out with the graphic design and web-site design for Adirondack Exposure, and she’s also been known to serve as cook for their guided southern coastal kayak trips.
Brad Carlson
After 30 years as an electrical engineer, Brad decided that it was time to relax. His love for the outdoors and a desire to share that with others led him to guiding. He grew up and has lived his entire life in the foothills of the Adirondacks, and escapes to his favorite trails and “secret spots” whenever he can.Brad is a licensed NYS guide and certified in First Aid/CPR. He is very knowledgeable regarding Adirondack history and folklore – ask him about his family connection to the Adirondack hermit French Louie. When Brad’s not hiking you can find him making maple syrup and tending to his berry patch.
Lori Diemer - DW Photography
I have always been fascinated by nature. I wonder at its beauty, simplicity and complexity. For me, the adventure of nature photography comes with the search. The search for the intricate patterns, the subtleties of light, and even the simplicity of a vast landscape. Traveling adds to the adventure with new places and vistas discovered. My own photographic journey has taught me the value of learning “in the field” by having the opportunity to discuss technique on the spot. This is the way I share my experience and knowledge with fellow photographers, as well as speaking at various seminars and creative workshops.
My photography has been awarded, published, and exhibited in galleries, businesses, juried art festivals, magazines and solo exhibits in the Northeast Ohio area. The North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) has recently recognized my work, and I am an active member of the Western Reserve Photographic Society. I have also participated in field, professional nature, and digital lab workshops with the Rocky Mountain School of Photography.
I enjoy exploring the world with photography and strive to bring that experience to all who walk beside me.
