INTRODUCTION TO KAYAK INSTRUCTOR TRAINING COURSE (IDW/ICE AND UPDATE)
2008 date TBD.
$259 per person for the full class
$129 per person for an updateAs more people discover kayaking, there is an increasing need for qualified instructors who can help paddlers develop the basic skills they need to be safe on the water. The Introduction to Kayak certification qualifies you to teach introductory kayak skills in a variety of kayaks (sea, river, recreational, sit on top) in a protected and calm water location. A great way for camp waterfront staff to add kayaking to their camp programs, this certification is also appropriate for instructors who limit their teaching to inland lakes.
The first part of the course (Instructor Development Workshop, or IDW) is an intensive, comprehensive day of learning, teaching, and developing skills and confidence for the Instructor Candidates. It has been designed to orient you to the teaching standards, policies, and certification guidelines of the American Canoe Association. During the course, you will be exposed to different teaching methods and will have a chance to experiment with them while making presentations on pre-assigned teaching topics.
The second part of the course (Instructor Certification Exam, or ICE) is when you will be evaluated on your knowledge, technical skills, modeling form and leadership abilities. As in the IDW, you will be pre-assigned teaching topics.
If you are a current IK instructor and are in need of an update, you can attend either day to complete your requirements for an update.
