                                  Kayak and Canoe Instruction

                                  Kayak and Canoe Instruction and Classes
                                  Our Paddling School runs from May through October and offers both courses in whitewater and flatwater/sea kayak, canoe, and open water kayak. Most of our instruction is based around the Old Forge, NY area.
                                  All of our paddling instructors are experienced certified instructors, and we keep our student to instructor ratio small. We offer both scheduled group classes as well as private and semi-private instruction. Group paddling classes can also be requested for custom dates.

                                  QUICKSTART TO KAYAK
                                  $59 per person
                                  This 3 hour course will expose you to the basic paddling and safety skills necessary for exploring the sport of kayaking. No special skills or previous experience is necessary, and all types of kayaks (recreation, touring, whitewater) are introduced.
                                  Dates: Offered daily throughout the summer (May 1st to September 25th) with reservations. Please email or call 315-335-1681 to reserve a class.  
                                   
                                  INTRODUCTION TO KAYAK
                                  $129 per person
                                  This full day course is designed to emphasize safety, enjoyment and skill acquisition for entry-level individuals in all types of kayaks. In the course we will cover safety, pre-paddling needs, capsizing, basic strokes and boat maneuvers. Upon completion of this course you should be able to safely enter and exit your kayak, comfortably control your boat going forwards and backwards and be able to control your boat in the event of a capsize.

                                  ESSENTIALS OF KAYAK TOURING

                                  $129 per person
                                  A full day class designed with the entry level touring kayaker in mind. Topics covered in the class will include safety, pre-trip planning, basic strokes and maneuvers, rescues, emergency planning and weather observation. At the end of the day you should feel comfortable moving your boat in all directions, performing self rescues, be able to identify on water and environmental hazards and know when it is safe and appropriate to paddle.

                                  TOTAL IMMERSION TOURING KAYAK
                                  $369 per person
                                  This 3 day intensive class is designed to take you from “Essentials of Kayak Touring“ through “Open Water Kayak“. You do need some previous paddling experience, to be in good physical condition and to be very comfortable in water.
                                  Dates: July 16-18, 2011 

                                  TOURING RESCUE CLASS
                                  $69 per person
                                  This ½ day class is the “what do I do now class”. If you paddle long enough you will eventually end up out of your boat. In this class dry and wet, solo and tandem re-entries will be introduced and practiced.
                                  Dates: July 16 (morning), August 13 (morning), and September  (morning), 2011 

                                  ESKIMO ROLL
                                  $69 per person
                                  A ½ day class that will introduce you to the mysterious and often mis-understood Eskimo roll. The roll will be broken down into a series of easy to understand moves that will make it easier to practice.
                                  Dates: July 16 (afternoon), August 13 (afternoon), and September 3 (afternoon), 2011 

                                   BEGINNER WHITEWATER KAYAK
                                  $259 per person
                                  This 2 day class is everything you need to get started in the world of whitewater. Boat design, boat fit, proper equipment, stretching, strokes, the Eskimo roll, balance, boat leans, ferries, peel outs and eddy turns. The class will focus on river dynamics, reading water, scouting rapids, river safety and communication. The class will take place on flat and moving water.
                                  Dates: May 14-15, and June 4-5, 2010

                                  TOTAL IMMERSION WHITEWATER KAYAK
                                  $379 per person
                                  A 3 day intensive class designed for aggressive beginners. The goal of this class is to take you from a beginner to a competent and confident class 2 paddler. You will also have exposure to class 3 whitewater. It will cover everything in the “Beginner Whitewater Class” with some more advanced maneuvers and plenty of time to practice in different settings.
                                  Dates: May 29-31, 2011

                                  PRIVATE INSTRUCTION
                                  $60 per hour, $299 per day (one student)
                                  $90 per hour, $399 per day (2-3 students)
                                  Private instruction is for anyone in any craft. If you don’t fit into the advertised classes, need a rolling tune-up or can’t make an advertised date private instruction may be for you. The day can be customized to address all of your individual needs without going over material that you may already know.
