Everglades, FL Guided Five-Day Expedition Kayak Trip

January 12 - 16, 2009
February 9 - 13, 2009
$895 per person (all taxes included)

Camping in the Everglades National Park's Ten Thousand Island Region on our Florida Guided Kayak TripSpend five full days paddling and camping in the northern region of the Everglades "10,000 Islands Region!" This trip takes you into the winding mangrove waterways along the coast, as well as out to the pristine white sandy beaches that are scattered throughout the region. Padding the Gulf of Mexico waters as we island-hop,we'll be looking out for dolphins, rays, and a wide array of birds including osprey, bald eagle, anhinga, roseate spoonbill, herons, and egrets. Many of the islands of this region were originally shell mounds created by the Calusa Indians, and over time these islands grew to be quite large. White sand beaches stretch along many of these islands and offer inviting lunch and camp sites. During our paddles and nights in camp you’ll also learn about the Everglade’s colorful history as the “last frontier” – a history not so far away in time that includes alligator hunters, drug runners, and murderers!
Our campsites are at various beach and ground sites. After setting up camp, there is plenty of time to explore the islands, go shell-hunting, read a book, or fish the flats for the redfish, sea trout, and snook the Everglades are famous for. The evenings are spent enjoying dinner, watching the sunset, and relaxing by the campfire.
This trip is designed for paddlers with some previous kayaking experience. Basic paddling and safety instruction will be reviewed at the beginning of the trip. You should be in good health and accustomed to regular exercise.

snook fishingThe 10,000 Islands Region of the Everglades is well known for its fishing, camping and kayaking, so why not combine them for a fantastic vacation! Our top priority on these week-long vacations is catching fish, and kayaks are our mode of transportation to the camping and fishing spots.

During the trip our target fish are snook, redfish and sea trout. Most of the time will be spent wade-fishing, but as your kayaking skills develop you’ll have the opportunity to try fishing from your kayak. The camping spots are on the beach and you’ll always want to have your rod handy, as you can often see fish cruising the flats from your tent!

This trip is designed for paddlers with some previous kayaking experience. Basic paddling and safety instruction will be reviewed at the beginning of the trip. You should be in good health and accustomed to regular exercise. Whether you are a fly or a spin fisherman, you should be able to cast relatively accurately and be accustomed to fishing in a 10 – 15 knot wind.

Canadian St. Lawrence Islands Guided Expedition Kayak Trip

Please contact us or email for 2008 & 2009 dates and availability
$495 per person, double occupancy (includes all taxes)

Kayak camping in the Thousand Islands of CanadaThe St. Lawrence Islands National Park of Canada is located between Kingston and Brockville, Ontario. The park is comprised of approximately 20 historic islands scattered throughout the St. Lawrence River. Each island has its own unique history – some islands were used as farmlands, some had large Inns for the rich and famous, and some have remained untouched and unspoiled. Paddling through the park will afford you views of historic forts, gunboat exhibits, a multitude of waterfowl, and ancient petroglyphs. You’ll also want to keep an eye out below your boat; due to the zebra mussels the waters of the St. Lawrence are as crystal clear as the Caribbean Sea.

The trip will begin in the town of Gananoque, Ontario, where the first night will be spent in waterside cabins. The following morning we will pack our boats and head out for 4 days and 3 nights of paddling and camping. Our daily paddles will average between four to eight miles in length, depending upon conditions. There will be plenty of time each day to explore the islands, lounge, read a book at the waterside, or fish these superb waters.

This trip is an introduction expedition trip and is designed for the individual who has had prior paddling experience. This trip is held during the “off-season,” as boat traffic along the St. Lawrence River tends to increase to a high level during the later summer months. The weather during this time of year can be unpredictable, so you should be prepared for possible chilly nights, and the potential for rain always exists.

Georgian Bay is a large bay on Lake Huron, located in Ontario, Canada that’s a sea kayaker’s dream come true! There are so many islands, coves and narrow channels to explore that you can literally spend a lifetime trying to see it all. Our trip will take place in the northern region of the bay, departing from the town of Killarney. From here we will be able to explore the south side of Philip Edward Island, the Fox Islands, and then head offshore towards the Hawk Islands and beyond. The options are endless! This is an expedition trip and the exact itinerary will be determined by the weather and guest input.

Our trip will rendezvous at two places. You can choose to ride up with us from our Old Forge, NY location, leaving Sunday morning, or you can choose to meet us at the inn in the town of Killarney on Sunday evening. For those who choose to ride up with us and have their own boats, there will also be room for your boat on our van. We will spend Sunday night at an inn in Killarney and head out to the bay on Monday morning. For the next 5 days we’ll explore the bay and spend each night camping on a variety of islands. Friday afternoon we’ll head back in to Killarney and spend the night there before heading home on Saturday morning.

Due to the size of the bay and the potential for open water conditions, this trip is open to a maximum of 6 guests and there will be two guides, who are also certified open water instructors. Please note that this trip is only open to experienced sea kayakers and folks who have taken appropriate instruction before the trip.

The cost of the trip includes all equipment (kayak and paddling accessories) if needed, two nights lodging at an inn in Killarney, camping fees, and all on-water meals.
