Paddling with the Vanderbilts - The Sagamore Great Camp

Email or call (315-335-1681) for 2010 dates
$995 per person, double occupancy

The Sagamore InnNew for this year is a trip based out of the Great Camp Sagamore. Sagamore is a 27 building Vanderbilt Estate and a national historic landmark. For a week you'll be able to vacation like the Vanderbilts of the gilded age!

The week starts on Sunday evening when we meet at the Great Camp Sagamore for dinner. During the week we will explore several different locations, including some motor-less (no boats with motors allowed) lakes.  In the evenings we will return to the Camp for dinner in the dining room that overlooks the lake. Nights can be spent by the fire, gazing at the lake or playing your favorite card game - much as they would have done around the turn of the century.

Our daily paddles will range from small Adirondack streams to large motor-less lakes, as well as the private lake at the Camp.  The pace is designed for beginners, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the fall foliage as well as spectacular views of the Adirondacks.

Please be advised that the camp is set in a remote location, 4 miles from the closest paved road.  When we leave the property we will have to travel back and forth on the 4 miles of dirt road. There is no cell service, televisions or radios - a true vacation!

Included in the cost of the trip are lodging (mostly with shared baths) and all meals (except for one dinner, allowing you to get away for the evening) from Sunday evening through Saturday morning.  Also provided is daily transportation to and from the water, all paddling equipment, a licensed guide and certified instructor. You will be responsible for your own transportation to the Great Camp Sagamore. This trip is open to all levels of paddlers, from the complete and absolute beginner up to the advanced paddler. Instruction is provided on the first day, as well as throughout the week if there is an interest. Our focus is on enjoying the magnificent area we’re in - not on paddling from sunrise to sunset.

There are a minimum number of participants required to confirm this tour. Therefore please do not make any travel arrangements (airline flights, train) until you have received confirmation from us that the trip has fully booked. A 50% deposit is due at time of reservation, with payment in full due 60 days prior to the trip’s start date. For more information or to make a reservation, please email or call 315-335-1681. Diverse Waters Guided Paddling Trip

August 8 - 14, 2010
$895 per person, double occupancy

Paddling along the Marion RiverJoin us for an exciting week of paddling the beautiful and historic areas around Inlet, New York! Then spend your evenings relaxing at the charming Cinnamon Bear B&B.

Inlet, New York is located in the West Central Adirondacks and is rich in local history and natural beauty. Each morning we will pick you up from the Cinnamon Bear B&B (located in Inlet) to paddle the diverse waterways that are located between Old Forge and Blue Mountain Lake. Our five days of paddling will let you experience all types of waterways - from the slowly meandering North Branch of the Moose River to the open waters of Stillwater Reservoir. Along the way we’ll see some of the Adirondack “Great Camps,” learn about the local history, and view the abundant wildlife.

The week begins on Saturday evening when we will all meet up at the Cinnamon Bear B&B and then head to a local restaurant for a welcome dinner. Each morning Art and Marylou of the Cinnamon Bear will prepare a hearty breakfast for you. In addition to our five days of padding, we will reserve one afternoon for a hike, and one other afternoon will be left open for you to do as you please. This can be anything from browsing the Adirondack craft shops in Inlet to playing a round of golf or exploring the famous Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake. Then spend your evenings relaxing on the Cinnamon Bear porch after enjoying dinner at one of many excellent restaurants in the area.

Included in the cost of the trip are lodging and breakfasts at the Cinnamon Bear B&B, lunches (served on the water), the welcome dinner, daily transportation to and from the water, all paddling equipment, and a licensed guide. You will be responsible for your own transportation to the Cinnamon Bear B&B and for remaining dinners; alcohol and gratuities are not included. This trip is open to all levels of paddlers, from the complete and absolute beginner up to the advanced paddler. Instruction will be provided on the first day, as well as throughout the week if there is an interest. Our focus will be on scenery, wildlife, and camaraderie - not on logging miles!
