Kayaking with the Vanderbilts - The Sagamore Great CampSeptember 21 - 27, 2008
$995 per person, double occupancy
New for this year is a trip based out of the Great Camp Sagamore. Sagamore is a 27 building Vanderbilt Estate and a national historic landmark. For a week you'll be able to vacation like the Vanderbilts of the gilded age!
The week starts on Sunday evening when we meet at the Great Camp Sagamore for dinner. During the week we will explore several different locations, including some motor-less (no boats with motors allowed) lakes. In the evenings we will return to the Camp for dinner in the dining room that overlooks the lake. Nights can be spent by the fire, gazing at the lake or playing your favorite card game - much as they would have done around the turn of the century.
Our daily paddles will range from small Adirondack streams to large motor-less lakes, as well as the private lake at the Camp. The pace is designed for beginners, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the fall foliage as well as spectacular views of the Adirondacks.
Please be advised that the camp is set in a remote location, 4 miles from the closest paved road. When we leave the property we will have to travel back and forth on the 4 miles of dirt road. There is no cell service, televisions or radios - a true vacation!
Included in the cost of the trip are lodging (mostly with shared baths) and all meals (except for one dinner, allowing you to get away for the evening) from Sunday evening through Saturday morning. Also provided is daily transportation to and from the water, all paddling equipment, a licensed guide and certified instructor. You will be responsible for your own transportation to the Great Camp Sagamore. This trip is open to all levels of paddlers, from the complete and absolute beginner up to the advanced paddler. Instruction is provided on the first day, as well as throughout the week if there is an interest. Our focus is on enjoying the magnificent area we’re in - not on paddling from sunrise to sunset.
There are a minimum number of participants required to confirm this tour. Therefore please do not make any travel arrangements (airline flights, train) until you have received confirmation from us that the trip has fully booked. A 50% deposit is due at time of reservation, with payment in full due 60 days prior to the trip’s start date. For more information or to make a reservation, please email or call 315-335-1681. Hidden Regions Guided Kayak Trip
Please contact us or email for 2008 dates
$995 per person, double occupancy
Come join us for a week of paddling in one of the least explored regions of the Adirondacks!
This often-forgotten region of the Adirondacks is wilder and less developed than most other parts of the Park, and is also the area Adirondack Guide and hermit French Louie chose for his home. Lodging for this trip is the Irondequoit Inn on Piseco Lake, located in the South Central Adirondacks. The Irondequoit Inn was built over 100 years ago by the Piseco Company, and was once used exclusively by members and their guests. On our five days of paddling we explore everything from gently flowing streams to the undeveloped waters of Indian Lake. We will have the opportunity to see beaver, loons, deer, and bear, and if you join us in early October, you will see the vibrant fall colors reflected in the water.
We meet on the first evening at the Irondequoit Inn and then head to a local restaurant for a welcome dinner. Each morning Craig and Jodie of the Irondequoit Inn prepare you a made-to-order breakfast. In addition to our five days of paddling, two afternoons are reserved for hiking. One afternoon we hike up for a breathtaking view of the mountains and lakes of the “Hidden Region,” and the other afternoon our hike takes us waterfall hopping.
Included in the cost of the trip are lodging and breakfasts at the Irondequoit Inn, lunches (served on the water), the welcome dinner, daily transportation to and from the water, all paddling equipment, and a licensed guide. You will be responsible for your own transportation to the Irondequoit Inn and for remaining dinners (dinners are available at the Inn), and alcohol and gratuities are not included. This trip is open to all levels of paddlers, from the complete and absolute beginner up to the advanced paddler. Instruction is provided on the first day, as well as throughout the week if there is an interest. Our focus is on enjoying the magnificent area we’re in - not on paddling from sunrise to sunset.
